The Ashland B
The Ashland Book Exchange began 43 years ago in 1971 as Edna’s Book Exchange. It was one of many used bookstores in a community where used bookstores as well as new ones thrive to this day. Edna created a very loyal customer base, many who still think of the Book Exchange as “Edna’s.”

In 1990 Edna decided to retire and sold the Book Exchange to Cindy Munroe. Under Cindy’s guidance the Book Exchange grew to become one of the more successful used book stores in Ashland as well as the Rogue Valley. Through careful planning and use of space she was able to fit an amazing number of used books into a relatively small space.

With the book store’s success and Standing Stone’s need to expand, Cindy began looking for a larger space that she found in the fall of 2010. The book store moved to it’s current location at 90 North Pioneer and expanded to half again its previous size. It took a month to move book cases, build new ones, and move all of the used books to the new location. The bookstore opened Thanksgiving week, 2010.

The Ashland Book Exchange stocks used books of all genres. Many of the books are in like new condition and many of these “used” books are very recent publications, often-best sellers. The Book Exchange also carries a selection of rare books and vintage books. In addition, the Book Exchange carries a selection of new books from local authors as well as new books on local history and new books on local nature and ecology.

An additional advantage of the Book Exhange’s new location is its proximity to the free city parking in the lot on the corner of Lithia and Pioneer. This lot offers free parking for four hours. The bookstore is located between this public parking lot and the Oregon Shakespeare theaters making it easy to stop by before or after a performance to shop. We are happy to hold purchases while customers attend a play.
